The Transformers War For Cybertron has now reached Earth with the latest instalment of the trilogy – Earthrise.
Revealed at the end of 2019, Earthrse would continue where Siege had left off but with the battle taking place on Earth, so now the Transformers alt modes would be more related to this planet than the previous Cybertronian ones.
Battlemasters moved away from being weapons, instead primarily being ramps to connect base mode Transformers together to create large playsets. The scale concept of Siege was kept with some larger price point toys containing smaller figures but extra parts to justify the price like Astrotrain and Optimus Prime.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Earthrise’s release was patchy and didn’t seem to get a full line-up. The Quintesson Judge and Allicon would get their first ever Transformers toys since their debut in the 1986 Transformers movie. Snapdragon and the Micromaster Bases would finally receive Transformers Generations figures while many other favourites would receive new models including the massive Titan Scorponok.
Unfortunately Earthrise also introduced more exclusives into the main toyline with Runamuck being freely available but Runabout being a Target exclusive that was nearly impossible to find due to global lockdowns, the same being true of Thrust. Starscream was freely available but a two pack of his fellow Decepticons Skywarp and Thundercracker were released as an exclusive that was somewhat easier to find than Runabout and Thrust.
In the end, there were 31 releases at general retail and 29 exclusives, making Earthrise an incredibly expensive and frustrating line to collect.
