Crocodile Dundee is a 1986 comedy film starring Paul Hogan as an Australian outback bushman named Mick Dundee.
A New York reporter, Sue Charlton, travels to the Australian outback to do a feature on Dundee who apparently had been injured by a crocodile and crawled hundreds of miles through the wilderness to safety. Dundee turns out to be something of an exaggerator although he is a capable bushman with undeniable charm.
Dundee travels to New York City where he is bemused by the locals and by life in the big city. Eventually he and Sue fall in love.
The film was a massive hit and is best known for the scene where Mick and Sue are approached by a mugger with a knife, to which Mick quips, “that’s not a knife, that’s a knife” as he pulls a large hunting knife on the mugger. This scene was parodied endlessly but most notably by The Simpsons in the episode Bart vs Australia.
