Starscream’s Toast looks at the last of Wave 1 Titan Masters: Transformers Titans Return Apeface!
Transformers Titans Return Apeface is the last of the four wave 1 Titan Masters and also the best by a country mile. Why? Because he’s the only one that really ties into his Generation 1 counterpart with the accompanying vehicle turning into both of the original alt modes. Let me explain – the Generation 1 version of Apeface was not only a Headmaster like the other Titan Masters have been drawn from but he was a triple changer known as a Horrorcon. While the Titan Masters have featured random vehicles to accompany the Master figure, Apeface’s vehicle is a decent recreation of both his jet and ape modes.
Not only is the jet mode the only decent jet of the wave 1 Titan Masters and faithful to the G1 version, it’s also a very good looking toy rather than being some kind of tacked on mode like it is with Loudmouth, Nightbeat and Terri-Bull. The ape mode is fantastic for a figure this small and is immediately recognisable as a gorilla.
Apeface also features a face that looks like the head he turns into and like the other Titan Masters can ride on his vehicle’s modes or combine with them. He’s also interchangeable with larger figures’ heads as we can see below.
It’s a real shame that Hasbro didn’t produce a full Apeface figure for Titans Return but then I guess it is better to leave us impressed with what we got and wanting more rather than being given a large mess of a figure. Having said that, it’s hard to find a bad figure in the range and Transformers Titan Returns Apeface is definitely one of the very best even if he doesn’t have a body.
